The Best Clothes to Wear in Winter

Business

There was a saying I once heard that said “it is not the bad weather; it is just bad clothes” and funnily enough I think it is nothing short of accurate. The cold can get extreme at times and when you are not prepared or used to it, it becomes quite difficult to survive.

However, this when your choice of clothing becomes extremely important and just like the saying your clothes are really what matters. People who are used to cold winters and extreme weather patterns are equipped with the right warm clothes, but here is a list of essentials for those who need a little advice.

Break the wind

For most people the cold itself isn’t too bad to handle, rather it is the cold wind and blowing that sends shivers down their spines… literally. A key to staying warm is to make sure the cold wind does not reach your body.

A windbreaker or jacket made out of synthetic material or raincoat material blocks the cold from coming into contact with your body. It is also lined with a sort of insulation inside so that it traps in the heat. This works for pants too; it also helps that this material is waterproof so it is the best solution for windy conditions.

Sweater weather

Sweaters and jackets are the most common form of warm clothing, it is easy to wear, comfortable, trendy and obviously keeps you warm. However, some materials are better than others. Pair a knitted jumper with jeans for a great look.

Both these materials are made to trap in heat and are comfortable to wear. Other recommended materials are silk such as scarves and wool. However, cotton is not recommended, as it lets the cold inside and also can cause hypothermia when it gets wet. It is better to be worn as an inside layer covered with layers.

Hats, gloves and socks

Over the usual layers of clothes, it is the accessories that play an important role too. Feet, ears, hands the neck are some of the places that cold fast. It is because they are exposed to the wind and weather rather than the rest of the body that is covered.

Gloves are extremely important to keep the rest of the body warm. In these case too leather and knitted gloves are the best option. They are thick and keep heat in. scarves and shawls are essential if your neck is exposed and of course beanies, mufflers and hats to keep your ears and head toasty.

Good shoes are a lifesaver

Have you ever stepped in a puddle and felt the cold water soak your shoes and socks. During winter wearing waterproof shoes are ideal. Boots are probably your best option. Also be sure to get shoes that have a firm grip, as it gets slippery on ice or snow. Cover your feet with a good, thick pair of socks too and layer that too if you must. Never underestimate warm feet.
